Day 20: Abort, Retry, Fail

Sometimes You just mess up.
I was on target for finishing the 100 pushups program, as I mentioned on Day 6. But I failed.
I thought about not allowing that prewritten post to go live, but then you wouldn't get a chance to learn from my failure. I firmly believe we should keep learning - and if we make a mistake go back to the beginning. Or, if possible just back up a bit and go on.
Back in the day when DOS was the operating system on Intel based computers, it was not uncommon to get the warning message telling you that what you tried to do wouldn't work. Then it gave you three choices. Abort, Retry, Fail.

Those are your choices when you make a mistake.

I failed in my pushups program the first time through, but I've decided to retry. According to the site I could just repeat the week. But I realized that the reason I had failed was because I wasn't truly pushing myself. So back to week one I went.

So I'm back at it.

This same principle works in every area I'm concerned with on 960 days.
In terms of Physical Fitness or Financial Fitness, I'm convinced that it is always wrong to Abort. Never stop trying, and never stop. Don't file bankruptcy, don't quit working out - find a manageable program.
It's always the right time to try again.

But what about Spiritual Fitness?
Strictly speaking in terms of the good news, everyone has failed. Nobody is as perfect as God demands they be. So what do we do? This is where it's a good idea to Abort. Quit trying to please God because you'll never please him on your own.
The only hope we have is to declare to God that we are in fact spiritually bankrupt, we're not good enough to do it on our own. We need someone, a professional to carry us through. His name is Jesus.

If you'll give up on your human efforts and start relying upon Jesus for forgiveness and the perfection you need to see God you will be saved.
