Day 3:Break it Up

Q: How do you eat an elephant?

A: One bite at a time.

Finally, you've got a goal. Most of you have elected to do the equivalent of eating an elephant. Think about the process of you're not too squeamish. In order to eat an elephant one bite at a time, you've got to cut it up into bite size pieces. Then you have to store the pieces in the freezer, then you have to cook them and on it goes. There are many many steps involved in attaining any goal you have.

Grab a sheet of paper or a spreadsheet and write your goal at the top. Now, break down that goal into at least three different steps. Now break up each of those steps into smaller chunks. Finally break each one of those steps into bite size pieces.

Chances are good that as you go through the process of breaking your goal into bite size pieces you'll think of more and more steps.

DON'T PANIC!

I know that at this point you're looking at all that it's going to take and you're starting to panic. You're probably thinking, "I can't possibly do all of that". Ready for some good news? You don't have to do all of that today.

Look at the very first step. Can you do that today? If it's too big for today, break it up into smaller pieces until you get to something that you can do today.

Now Do it.
